Friends of Forest Holme, Poole
Friends of Forest Holme supports the specialist palliative & hospice care unit in Poole, by raising funds to enhance the quality of life to patients with cancer and other life limiting illnesses.
Forest Holme is managed by Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and offers a tranquil setting for the physical and psychological comfort of patients with complex needs. The unit also provides support and advice to carers, family and friends.
The funds raised by the charity go towards supporting all aspects of the unit including the 10 bedded in-patients ward; the purchase of specialist equipment; the funding of additional staffing posts; complementary therapies; counselling and bereavement support to patients and their families and all the extras which make a stay at Forest Holme more comfortable.
The Dorset Wine Company run the Friends of Forest Holme Wine Club, offering two mixed cases of wine on a quarterly basis. 10% of the purchase price for each case of wine goes directly to the charity to help them continue their vital work.

Julia’s House
Julia’s House is Dorset’s hospice dedicated to children with life-limiting conditions. The majority of the children that it cares for are unlikely to live into adulthood (defined as beyond the age of 18). The children’s hospice complements the work of the Julia’s House Community Team, which consists of nurses and carers who travel the county, providing life-changing support for families in their own homes. In 2008, the charity provided more than 8,300 hours of care for Dorset’s children.
It will cost nearly £2.6m to run Julia’s House in 2010, yet the charity receives just three per cent of its total annual funding from the government. The rest of the charity’s essential income is raised through the generosity of the Dorset community, corporate partners and charitable foundations.
