Interesting chap, Peter Vinding-Diers. After a career as a war correspondent in Vietnam, Aden, Malaya, Indonesia, Hong Kong and Nigeria, he started making wine - first in South Africa, then in Bordeaux, Brazil, Kenya of all places, Spain, Chile, and Hungary. Playing a pivotal role in revitalising regions from Graves in the '80s and Tokaj in the early '90s, he then influenced his nephew Peter Sisseck to set up the renowned Pingus in Ribera del Duero. Now he’s in Sicily, making stunning Syrah from massal selection Cote Rotie vines at his Monte Carrubo estate. Il Piccolo is his second wine and is a blend of Syrah, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Gorgeously plush, ripe and smooth. A great expression of volcanic Sicilian terroir.
